Description

Speer Hot-Cor 458cal 350grain 2478

Speer Ammunition offers a wide range of bullets that are ideal for rifle hunting. Hot-Cor® bullets are extremely precise. We can provide reliable choices in a variety of calibers by pouring molten lead into the jacket. Because of the dependable Hot-Cor method, we can provide you with a cost-effective and accurate bullet.

Best Suited For

  • Big Game Hunting: It excels against large, tough-skinned North American game such as black bears, feral hogs, moose, and elk.
  • Lever-Action and Large-Bore Platforms: It is highly optimized for reloading large-bore cartridges including the .458 Winchester Magnum, .45-70 Government, and .458 SOCOM.
  • Tubular Magazines: Its flat-nose profile prevents accidental tip-to-primer ignition under heavy recoil in tubular magazine firearms.

When To Use It

  • Close-to-Moderate Range Engagements: Best deployed within 150 to 200 yards, where aerodynamic drop is minimal and the flat nose provides rapid energy transfer.
  • Thick Brush Scenarios: Ideal when hunting in heavy cover; its high sectional density and weight help retain its path through light vegetation.
  • Controlled Expansion Needs: Use it when you need deep penetration combined with high weight retention without suffering core-jacket separation.

FAQs

  • Is this a complete loaded cartridge?
No. This product consists only of reloading projectiles (bullets). Brass cases, primers, and gunpowder must be sourced separately.

  • Will it expand reliably at lower .45-70 Government velocities?
While originally configured for higher .458 Win Mag velocities, handloaders report successful expansion down to roughly 1,900–2,000 FPS out of hot-loaded .45-70 or .450 Marlin rifles. At much slower velocities, expansion drops but penetration remains deep.

  • Does it cycle properly in standard lever-action rifles?
Yes, but length matters. Due to its ogive profile, seating it deeply enough to meet standard Cartridge Overall Length (COAL) limits (typically 2.550–2.600") is necessary to clear lever-action feeding mechanisms.

Delivery & Compliance

Projectiles do not contain live primers or powder, meaning they are not classified as explosives and escape strict hazardous material shipping fees applied to ammunition.
