Description

Lee Factory Crimp Die 6.5 Creedmoor

The 6.5 Creedmoor Lee Factory Crimp Die is made to provide reloaders with the ideal crimp on every round of reloaded ammo. The Factory Crimp Die applies more constant pressure than any other die to crimp the bullet more tightly. A collet on the Factory Crimp Die forces the case mouth into the crimping groove for a secure hold. The factory ammunition has a crimp similar to this one. When crimping, as opposed to using a conventional roll crimp die, it is almost impossible for the case to buckle. According to Lee's study, utilizing a Factory Crimp Die creates a more uniform pressure curve, improving any bullet's accuracy.

Best Suited For

  • 6.5 Creedmoor reloaders (bolt-action and semi-auto rifles)
  • Shooters wanting consistent bullet retention under recoil
  • Hunting ammunition where reliability is critical
  • Reloaders seeking improved velocity consistency
  • Users loading bullets without a crimp groove (cannelure)

When To Use It

  • As a final step after bullet seating in the reloading process
  • When loading ammo for:
    • Semi-auto rifles (to prevent bullet setback)
    • Field/hunting use (for durability under handling)
  • When trying to reduce velocity variation (ES/SD)
  • When working with mixed brass or varying neck tension
  • 💡 Tip: Many precision shooters test with and without crimp—results can vary depending on load and rifle setup.

FAQs

1. Do I need to crimp 6.5 Creedmoor?

Not always. Many bolt-action precision shooters don’t crimp, but it can help in:

  • Semi-auto rifles
  • Hunting rounds
  • Loads with inconsistent neck tension

2. Can it improve accuracy?

Yes—in some setups. A consistent crimp can:

  • Increase start pressure
  • Reduce velocity variation
  • Improve shot-to-shot consistency

3. Will it damage cases?

No. The collet design makes it very difficult to buckle cases, unlike roll crimps.

4. Does the bullet need a crimp groove?

❌ No—the die can form a crimp even on smooth bullets.

5. Is this part of a die set?

No—this is a standalone crimp die used after:

  1. Sizing
  2. Expanding (if needed)
  3. Bullet seating
