These bullets are intended for medium- to long-range hunting with cartridges with medium to large powder case capacities in 30 caliber rifles. These bullets frequently exhibit match grade accuracy when fired from precise hunting rifles. The famous Sierra Spitzer Boat Tail shape ensures a flat trajectory, good resistance to crosswinds and vertical winds, and maximum energy delivery to the target. Even at low impact velocities at long range, these bullets exhibit good penetration and expansion.
Given the weight range, at least one of these bullets will be suitable for almost any 30 caliber cartridge. The 165 grain bullet is best suited to medium game at all velocity levels, and game as large as elk could be taken with confidence if velocity does not exceed 3000 fps and range is limited to about 300 yards.
Previously thought to be "too hard" for expansion, they now perform admirably at the 2500 fps muzzle velocities attained by the 308 Winchester and larger cartridges. Their excellent accuracy is aided by their ease of loading and precise concentricity. Sierra's Spitzer Boat Tail design ensures a flat trajectory and high energy delivery downrange while being highly resistant to crosswinds and vertical winds. These bullets are suitable for varmints to large game at all ranges that a responsible handgunner would normally attempt.
