Description

Hodgdon Lilgun 1lb

Lil' Gun is a state-of-art, 410 borer shotshell reloader technology propeller. Because of weak powder fitness, measuring and burning properties, the 410 shotshell was long difficult to charge, but not longer. Lil' Gun was intended for the 410-bore to fit, compress, and perform perfectly. No shot or bulged cases any more spilled. Moreover, Lil' Gun has many applications of magnum pistol and is a great option for recharge of the 22 Hornet.

Best Suited For

This powder performs best in:

✔ Primary Applications

  • .410 bore shotgun shells (its original design purpose)
  • Magnum pistol cartridges (e.g. .357 Mag, .44 Mag)
  • Small rifle cartridges (notably .22 Hornet)

✔ Secondary Uses

  • Specialty cartridges like .300 Blackout, .350 Legend (with published data)
  • High-performance handloads requiring maximum velocity

When To Use It

Use Hodgdon Lil’ Gun when:

  • You need maximum velocity in magnum loads
  • Loading .410 shotgun shells reliably
  • Working with small-capacity rifle cases needing efficient burn
  • You want consistent ignition and clean metering

⚠️ Avoid Using It When:

  • Loading standard or low-pressure handgun rounds (e.g. 9mm, .380 ACP)
  • Substituting for other powders without load data
  • You require a fast-burning powder (Lil’ Gun is relatively slower)

FAQs

Is Lil’ Gun beginner-friendly?

It can be used by beginners only with strict adherence to published load data. It is less forgiving than some powders.

What makes it different from H110 or W296?

They are similar burn-rate powders, but Lil’ Gun is often:

  • Better suited to .410 bore
  • Capable of slightly higher velocities in some loads

Can I use it in 9mm or .380?

❌ Not recommended. It is generally too slow-burning for standard pistol cartridges.
