Description

Forster Hand Outside Neck Turner Pilot .338" #HOT2338

The Forster Hand Held Outside Neck Turner tool allows the reloader to make absolutely certain that their bullet is being released consistently from the case neck. At the point of ignition, the case neck must expand to allow bullet release. If the case neck is thicker on one side than the other, the thinner side will release the bullet sooner and causes a slight bullet-to-bore misalignment that can seriously impair accuracy.

Best Suited For

  • Reloaders working with .338 caliber cartridges (e.g., .338 Win Mag, .338 Lapua, .338 Federal).
  • Precision shooters aiming for uniform neck wall thickness and concentricity.
  • Users of the Forster Hand-Held Outside Neck Turner system.
  • Long-range and magnum shooters where consistent bullet release is critical.

👉 The pilot (mandrel) supports the inside of the case neck so the cutter removes brass evenly, improving alignment and accuracy.

When To Use It

  • After resizing/expanding cases and before bullet seating.
  • When:
    • Neck thickness varies between cases
    • You’re chasing maximum long-range accuracy
    • Using tight-neck chambers or match rifles
  • During case prep for premium or competition ammunition

👉 Uneven neck walls can cause inconsistent bullet release and misalignment, reducing accuracy.

FAQs

Q: What does the .338 pilot do?
A: It aligns and supports the case neck internally so brass is removed evenly during neck turning.

Q: Why is the pilot slightly undersized?
A: The undersize allows smooth rotation while maintaining proper alignment for consistent cuts.

Q: Can this be used with a Forster Case Trimmer?
A: ❌ No. HOT-series pilots are for hand-held neck turners only and are not interchangeable with trimmer pilots.

Q: Do I need this for all .338 brass?
A: Only if you’re aiming for precision/competition-level consistency. It’s not required for standard hunting ammo.

Q: What happens if I don’t neck turn?
A: Most factory chambers will still function fine, but you may sacrifice ultimate accuracy and consistency.
