Preparation:
Case mouths may not be completely round due to the manufacturing process and/or shipment. Cases must be sized (or have the expander ball of the sizing die run through the case neck) and deburred/chamfered prior to loading to guarantee a round case mouth.
Note:
On the case neck of new brass, there is a mild "staining." This is owing to the annealing process. Annealing is a manufacturing technique that involves rapidly heating to a specific temperature and then rapidly cooling. This method produces casings the right hardness to safely contain a bullet while also allowing them to expand and contract during firing and forming. This procedure leaves a residue, which is the "staining." Before loading, this stain can be removed by tumbling. Before loading, the brass should be full-length sized, trimmed, and chamfered.
