Description

Winchester 1895 High Grade  30-06
Mint condition, as new, unfired includes Skinner Peep Site (no box)
The classic 1895 configuration of all time. Superbly craftedWalnut Grade 3, straight grip, checkering, gloss blued finish, button rifled.

Here is an opportunity to own a unique part of the Winchester legacy. It was one of the first rifles to incorporate a non-detachable box magazine. This is the rifle Teddy Roosevelt took on his famous African safari, the one he called his "Big Medicine." This is the rifle that became the preference of major powers worldwide, with Russia alone purchasing nearly 300,000 1895s just before World War I. It has a scalloped receiver, two-piece lever, Schnabel forearm and straight grip stock. The barrel and receiver have been polished to give it a glossy, deep black/blue appearance. The walnut stock and forearm have been precisely fit and finely checkered.

2. Is .30-06 good for hunting?

✔ Yes — extremely versatile:

  • Suitable for deer, pigs, elk, and similar game
  • Effective from close range to several hundred meters

3. Is it as accurate as a bolt-action rifle?

✔ Generally good accuracy, but:

  • Bolt-actions typically offer slightly better precision
  • The 1895 excels in handling and follow-up shots

4. Can a scope be mounted?

✔ Many versions are drilled and tapped, but mounting options may be more limited than modern rifles.

5. Is recoil heavy?

⚠️ Moderate to strong:
