The flexible carbine length gas device is used in this 16" 300 Blackout upper, which is a good option for this cartridge if different weights and types of ammunition are to be used. This configuration is compatible with most subsonic and supersonic loads fired from either a suppressed or unsuppressed gun. However, without a sound suppressor attached to provide extra backpressure, some subsonic ammunition can not cycle reliably in adverse conditions or in a heavily fouled weapon.
