SCHAFTOL is a trademark of the "Jagd- und Sportwaffenfabrik Scherell & Co" company, which was established in 1834. On the basis of his daily practical experience, Oswald Scherell, Berlin, the foremost Prussian gunsmith of the period, created it in the twenties of the last century. Many modern sporting firearms have oiled wood gunstocks, which absorb a lot of water and can deform and shatter after drying.
