Description
This is the story of Major Craig Wilson, the combat leader and the men and women of the Bravo and Kiwi Companies. It begins at Burnham Army Base in 2010 and includes infantry preparations for their tour of Afghanistan known as Crib 20, the deadliest New Zealand Army mission since Vietnam. In 2012, the story moves to the Romero base in Afghanistan's Bamiyan province when the security situation deteriorates and culminates in the Battle of Baghek and its aftermath.
He describes in fascinating detail what it is like to serve and sacrifice for his country and the physical and mental discipline it takes to get from peaceful New Zealand to a war-torn country where you are never sure who is your friend and who is your enemy. . Major Craig Wilson is an excellent former SAS member.
He was the commander of Bravo Company, which lost 2 soldiers in August 2012 when they came to the aid of the Afghan police in Baghek. Craig was injured, shot in the shoulder and taken to a German hospital. There he heard that 3 other members of his team had been killed in an explosion.
