It is a solid gun that balances well in the hand. A thick, full underlug barrel adds just the right amount of weight to the gun to balance nicely, and also help absorb recoil. The gun is a little on the meaty side, tipping the scales at 44.2 ounces unloaded. The ten-round cylinder is fluted and the sights are exceptional.
It has traditional style adjustable sights with a white outline rear and red ramp front. With the aid of a small flathead screwdriver, the rear sight is adjustable for both windage and elevation. The 617 is equally at home firing high-velocity CCI Stinger or Mini Mags, as it is reduced recoil value pack bricks of .22LR. The smooth organic contours make it a superb plinking gun. Since the gun is designed around a heavy-duty rimfire frame, it is capable of handling high-volume shooting extremely well.
